2021  All Wisconsin  SS1K

Starting and Ending in Hurley, Wisconsin

1,008 Miles - all in Wisconsin

This ride is offered to those who already may have done an All Yooperland SS1K or would just rather do this ride instead.  It is quicker to do with less stops, and less miles done on two-lane roads.  However, it's not done in the beautiful U.P. of Michigan.

All makes and models of bikes are welcome to do the ride, including Trikes, and Spyders.  Sorry, the IBA has changed it's policy and Slingshots Riders cannot earn an IBA Certificate.  If you are a Slingshot Rider you are welcome to join us, but no cert will be issued.

This is not a big group ride.   Rider's are welcome to form their own small groups or do the ride solo.

I am organizing this ride as a courtesy and for the camaraderie.  All participating Riders do their own ride and assume all risks for their ride, as with any other IBA certified ride.

There is a thread about this ride on the ADV Rider Forum

There will be a dinner on Friday at the Big Snow Indianhead Mountain Resort on Indianhead Road ( not the nearby Big Snow Blackjack Mountain Resort ) , a few miles north-west of Wakefield.  between 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm with a Rider's meeting after dinner to answer any questions about the route and required receipts.

The ride will start the next morning @ 6:30 am at the Krist Station in Hurley, WI after having your odometer reading recorded at the Wakefield Holiday Station.  There will also be a brief meeting in Wakefield before departing at 6:15 am to get a starting receipt in Hurley. Riders may leave earlier than  6:15 am , if they were at the Friday meeting or have already done an IBA ride that I have organized, but will still need to have their odometer reading recorded in Wakefield.

It is not mandatory, but advisable, for Riders to be at the dinner and Rider's meeting on Friday, especially if this ride will be your first IBA SS1K.  And Friday is a good time to meet some of the other Riders and form small groups, if you desire, etc.

All Riders must be present Saturday morning for a 6:00 am pre-departure Rider's meeting at the Holiday station in Wakefield for Rider's who were not able to attend the Friday meeting after dinner.  Riders will have have their odometer reading recorded before departure.   Riders will be supplied a list of all required mandatory ADTL ( Accurate Date, Time, and Location Receipts ) and an  envelope to place all receipts in. Your odometer reading will also be required to be recorded after the ride at the Indianhead Mountain Resort.

I need to receive the Rider Information Form at least 1 week before the ride.  Otherwise, you may hand in the completed form on Friday or the morning of the ride, if for some reason you are unable to mail the form to me one week in advance of the ride.

Note:  You do not need to already have your IBA number to do this ride !

As a courtesy and free service to you, I will be submitting a Rider's information spreadsheet to the IBA to include all the data of those that successfully complete the ride. This will streamline the certification process for you. All you need to do is fill out the form and then do the Ride and hand in the required receipt after you complete the ride!   You do the ride, and I'll take care of the paperwork as a courtesy to you.

After completing the ride, ASAP, send a PayPal payment (Refer to the Rider Information Form ) to the IBA ( in USD funds ).

To use PayPal :  Go to PayPal.com and follow the directions.

Make a notation on your payment:  "July 10, 2021 All Wisconsin SS1K" and send the required calculated payment to: paypal@ironbutt.com.

Note : You can make a payment using Paypal without having a Paypal account.  Otherwise, you may send a check or cashiers check ( in USD funds ) or USPS money order made out to the "Iron Butt Association" after you complete the ride.  Make a notation on your check or money order,  "July 10, 2021All Wisconsin SS1K"  and mail to :

Iron Butt Association, P.O. Box 4223, Lisle, IL 60532

Do not pay the fee by using the IBA STORE , that will not work.

Rich Henrion has made special arrangements with the Big Snow Indianhead Resort for rooms.  About $79 + taxes for a double room and if you get a room for 2 nights, then the third night is a freebie.  800-346-3426  www.bigsnow.com

However, the Resort is not accepting reservations until after April 1st.

There are also a number of motels in Ironwood about 15 minutes from Wakefield and a few between Wakefield and Ironwood - take a look on Google Maps.

Very Good to Know Information :

IBA Archive of Wisdom   Highly recommended reading, especially for first time SS1K Riders

IBA SS1K General Information

Fatigue and Long Distant Motorcycle Riding , by Dr. Don Arthur, M.D. and LD Rider himself.  Hey, if you get tired, stop and get some sleep !!  Don't take a chance with your life !!  You will have time for a snooze on this ride if you do get tired. If a snooze doesn't help, then the smart thing to do IMO would be to terminate the ride.

And, in the above article,  Dr. Don says :  " You cannot overcome fatigue! You must learn to recognize it and take effective action REST! No ride is worth your life! "
